Lucky D’s Hostel is in the heart of downtown San Diego. We are steps away from the Gaslamp Quarter, home of San Diego’s hottest nightlife, restaurants, bars, clubs and shops. All of San Diego’s attractions can be reached by foot, bike or a short bus ride.

  From Los Angeles

  AMTRAK TRAIN – From $35.65. Very scenic, mainly coastal train ride between Los Angeles & San Diego. Take the stress out of traveling and enjoy the scenic drive.

  FLiXBUS - bus rides as low as $0.99! Drop off in Balboa Park, about a 30 minute walk from the hostel or catch the #7 bus from Park Blvd to Broadway and 8th and then walk 4 blocks down 8th Ave to the hostel. (*SPECIAL OFFER*: FlixBus riders who present their ticket will receive FREE admission to the San Diego Museum of Art at Balboa Park on the day of their trip.)

  GREYHOUND - bus ride from $14. Drop off at the transit center. About a 20 minute walk or catch the #11 bus towards SDSU. Get off at Market & 8th Ave. (7 minutes 4 stops). Walk up to 615 8th Ave. Bus costs $2.25. You must have the correct fare as they will not give change.

  Bus/Trolley

  Lucky D’s San Diego Hostel is 1/2 block from the local bus service which thoroughly services all of San Diego and vicinity. For bus/trolley information please check out SDMTS or plan your journey and get detailed directions here.

  From the Greyhound station

  From the transit centre catch the #11 bus towards SDSU. Get off at Market & 8th Ave. (7 minutes 4 stops). Walk up to 615 8th Ave. Bus costs $2.25. You must have the correct fare as they will not give change.

  From Amtrak station

  Catch the Blue Line trolley marked San Ysidro. Get off at the stop marked Park Blvd at Market Street. (About 7 minutes.) Walk 0.2 miles west towards 11th Ave, to Market to 8th Ave. Make a right to walk to 615 8th Ave. We are on your right. Trolley costs $2.50.

  From the Airport

  Catch the #992 Airport bus. Get off at Broadway & 8th Ave. (20 minutes, 14 stops) Make a right on 8th towards E street, and walk to 615 8th Ave. (About 6 minutes). We are on your left. Bus costs $2.50. You must have the correct fare as they will not give change.

  By Car

  From North: Take the I 5 South and take the exit 16 for 10th Ave. Turn slightly onto 10th Ave. Turn right onto Market. Turn right onto 8th Ave. We are on your right. From South: Take the I 5 North and take the exit 15A toward CA-94 E/J St/M L King Jr Fwy. Merge onto 19th Street. Turn left onto Market. Turn right onto 8th Ave. We are on your right. From East: Take the 8 West to the 163 South. Take 10th Ave exit. Turn slightly onto 10th Ave. Turn right onto Market. Turn right onto 8th Ave. We are on your right.

  Uber and Lyft are always a cheap, convenient and quick way to get around San Diego.

Parking

We do not have a parking lot, but there is metered street parking throughout the city. Make sure to check the signs for street cleaning! There is street parking for $1.25 per hour, (8am-6pm from 8th Ave up, 10am-8pm from 1st-7th), Mon-Sat. It is free to park on the street outside the per-mentioned times and all day on Sunday. Please read street signs to make sure parking is allowed. Keep an eye out for street sweeping times. Parking tickets are expensive. South from 13th and Market there is plenty of free street parking. This is where most of the staff park their cars. It’s a 10 minute walk back to the hostel. There is an open parking lot next door to the hostel that generally charges $7 for 8 hours. They increase their rates for special events or weekend nights. They are a cheap option if you will not be using your car during the day. They do not allow in/out privileges. There is also a covered parking garage one block away on 7th and Market, (our hostel is 8th and Market) called Park it on Market. They charge $1.00 per hour, with an $8.00 daily maximum. Sun-Thurs they charge an extra $3.00 to park over night and Fri and Sat they charge an extra $8.00 overnight fee.
